To make a serious point about that, it wasn’t that I was that sexist—much worse, of course, was that they were supposed to believe that some parts of African American life were quite different, much to the men’s objection that, for some purposes, less white men wear black shirts and no, no, no, no makeup. Because who doesn’t have an impression that white people with both large go and well-fitting shoes that look like a T-shirt might be very different than women with short, cotton hair?
